FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I apply for a place on a course at the Centre?
 
Contact the Centre for an application form which should be completed, signed and returned to the Centre with the appropriate course fee. The application form can also be downloaded from the website. 

Do I need previous qualifications to attend a hypnosis certificate course?
 
If you wish to attend the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes in hypnosis or cognitive hypnotherapy you will generally need to be a psychologist, medic, dentist or qualified health or caring professional. You may hold relevant certificates, diplomas or degrees in your area of work. 

Alternatively you may hold professional qualifications or memberships awarded by professional bodies. For example, you may be a member of a health-related professional body such as the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health or the Institute of Health Promotion & Education. You may be a trained Health Coach and a member of the Association for Coaching.

If you are a health or caring professional still in training you may still be able to attend our courses. If you are currently not sufficiently trained, we recommend that you consider training at the Centre for Stress Management (or elsewhere). Is the course assessed or validated by a Professional Body?

The Certificate in Cognitive Hypnotherapy / Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapies & Hypnosis offered by the Centre for Postgraduate Studies & Research Ltd has been Assessed and Validated at Foundation Level by The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (UK)  and graduates are eligible to apply for Affiliate status within The General Hypnotherapy Register (the GHSC's Registering Agency).

 

What other professional bodies can I join?

The UFH Association are now offering in association with the Centre for Stress Management and Centre for Postgraduate Studies & Research Ltd Associated and Professional Membership to all its students. Who are the courses suitable for/what sort of people attend them?  
The CPD Hypnosis and cognitive hypnotherapy courses are suitable for psychologists, psychotherapists, medics, dentists, and other qualified health and caring professionals who wish to learn more about the particular topics. Our courses are Continuing Professional Development programmes. Professionals still in training may still be able to apply for these courses. Who recognises/accredits the courses?
 
The courses are for CPD of qualified health professionals. The certificated courses at the Centre provide eligibility for membership of the Institute of Health Promotion and Education (IHPE).  
 
What sort of qualification do I get after attending courses at the Centre?
Certificates of attendance are issued to delegates who complete a course for the purposes of continuing professional development. A Primary Certificate is awarded to students who attend a 2-day course and successfully complete a three hour written assignment undertaken at home. A Certificate is awarded to delegates who successfully complete a five-day courses and further assignments as detailed in the brochure. Delegates can progress to an Advanced Certificate or Diploma - please see the brochure for further details. 

What are the course dates and fees?
 
Course dates and fees are shown on this website. Contact the Centre for availability on specific courses. 

Does the Centre give discounts of any sort?
 
We have two course fees: one is payable by organizations (Org), the other is the fee for students who are self-funding (Ind). Details of course fees can be found on our website and on the list of course dates. We do have special discounted prices on some courses for members of professional bodies including the IHPE, APMHA, BACP, BPS, NBCCH, AAPH and ISMA. Contact the office for details of offers.

Can I reserve a place on a course by paying a deposit?
 
We do not take deposits. Course fees must be paid in advance by students who are self-funding. Organisations will be invoiced for the course fee. 

How far in advance of the course must I pay?
 
Six weeks prior to the proposed course date or with application. 

How do I apply for advanced cert/diploma?
 
Request an enrolment form from our general office. Can I transfer an application & payment to a different course? Transfers can be made up to six weeks prior to the course date if a place is available. See our application form for cancellation charges. 

What letters can I put after my name when I have attended course(s)?
 
Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies and Hypnosis - CertCBTHyp.
Certificate in Cognitive Hypnotherapy - CertCogHyp

At what stage should I apply for advanced cert/diploma?
 
Delegates are advised successfully attend and pass the Certificate module before applying to enrol on an advanced programme at the Centre for Stress Management. See brochure for further details. 

How soon or at what stage can I start practising after attending courses/am I qualified to start practising after I have attended the courses (or a course)?
 
This depends upon previous experience and qualifications. We always recommend supervision. 

Who will insure me against cancellation/non-attendance?
 
Contact your insurance broker for advice. 

Does the Centre provide counselling/therapy?
 
Yes. However, however please check with Dawn Cope or Peter Ruddell for availability. 

Can the Centre provide articles or suggest reading material?
 
See our website for details. We can obtain certain books for students who are already enrolled on a programme at the Centre.
